As your constituent, I urge you to oppose efforts that would weaken the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). This includes taking a stand against legislative efforts and budget bargaining schemes to gut CEQA. For decades, CEQA has given individuals like me the power to protect and improve our quality of life in this state that we call home.

CEQA gives us opportunities to safeguard our urban environment, conserve California’s natural treasures and farmland, and more. CEQA provides a critical framework for government accountability and public participation. Despite inspiring Californians like me to stand up to the powerful forces driving environmental devastation, this year we are seeing numerous legislative attempts to weaken CEQA to the point of ineffectuality.

Now is not the time to restrict our ability to protect California from careless industrial and development projects. More than ever, we need CEQA to protect ourselves against harmful industrial practices, haphazard growth, and irresponsible development. CEQA is the tool that enables us to ensure that future generations inherit a California that is cleaner, healthier, and more vibrant.

Please take a stand with me and say “NO” to the attempts supported by special interests to weaken CEQA.
