SB x 2: 33% renewables by 2020
After a staggering end-of-session setback in 2010, the 33% renewable electricity portfolio measure, SB x 2 (Simitian), was passed early in 2011 in a special session. The bill increases California's current renewables portfolio standard (RPS) to require all retail sellers of electricity and all publicly owned utilities to procure at least 33% of electricity delivered to their retail customers from renewable resources by 2020. Implementation of the RPS is an integral part of weaning our state off foreign oil and meeting our AB 32 goals.
