AB 1366: Hard fight over water softeners
High salt content in wastewater is a major inhibitor to the use of recycled water. Concentrated saline discharges from residential water softeners are a major contributor to this problem faced by water agencies across the state. After similar measures failed before, AB 1366 (Feuer) succeeded in authorizing water agencies in areas of the state with salinity problems to regulate and limit the private use of selfregenerating water softeners that can greatly increase the salinity of wastewater.
