Tonight in San Francisco: Warner Chabot on the environmental movement
Tonight at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, CLCV CEO Warner Chabot and Paul Rogers of the acclaimed “QUEST” series will discuss the history and the future of the environmental movement after a sneak preview of the new movie “Earth Days.” It will be a fascinating and inspiring evening, and you’re invited!
“Green” Champions Honored at CLCV’s Environmental Leadership Awards
Last night in San Francisco, the Julia Morgan Ballroom at the Merchants Exchange Building was the site of an incredible celebration: the California League of Conservation Voters’ annual Environmental Leadership Awards. More than 300 environmental champions from the business, political, advocacy and nonprofit communities gathered together under the theme of “Building a Greener California” to honor some of California’s inspiring “green” leaders: Applied Materials, Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2) and Justice William A. Newsom.
Dear Mr. President:
Today more than 1,100 groups, including the California League of Conservation Voters, 30 other state LCVs, and the national League of Conservation Voters, released an open letter to President Obama calling on him to show bold leadership on clean energy and climate solutions for America.
Creating National Ocean Policy
CLCV’s Chief Executive Officer Warner Chabot recently moderated a panel entitled “Creating National Ocean Policy: Working to Protect Our Oceans and Resources” at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. According to the Commonwealth Club: “The United States has ocean areas larger than any country in the world. The White House is considering a national policy to address the environmental and economic challenges that face our oceans, coastal states, communities, jobs and waterways.” The panelists’ discussion was timely in light of the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Arnold’s Big Failure
The day starts off with more on the BP/Halliburton oil spill and the hard work their PR team is doing to make you forget about the spill and blame it on somebody else. Although this spill occurred in the Gulf of Mexico, it could have occurred in California, and at one point it looked like we were going to have another future spill in the making thanks in no small part to our supposedly “Green Governor” Arnold Schwarzenegger. Despite his reputation, Arnold has long been a friend of Big Oil.
Arnold Flip-Flops on Offshore Oil Drilling
It only took a national disaster of enormous proportions, that could have been avoided (and that us pesky environmentalists have been warning about), to realize offshore oil drilling isn’t as safe as Big Oil wants you to think.
