CLCV endorses Obama

On Thursday, the CLCV Board of Directors voted unanimously to endorse U.S. Senator Barack Obama for President.

Senator Barack Obama

Senator Obama’s environmental and energy plan – the strongest, most comprehensive global warming and energy independence proposal of any presidential nominee in history – would reduce carbon emissions 80% by 2050 and make desperately needed investments in our clean energy future. His strong environmental record (86% LCV lifetime score) demonstrates his commitment to making America an environmental leader on the world stage.

“America’s brightest opportunities have always grown from our greatest challenges,” Senator Obama has said. “Today we face the twin challenges of rising gas prices and global warming, and the American people are ready to face them. We can harness the potential of new energy and give Americans a choice, not between filling up a gas tank or feeding their families, but between real energy alternatives.”

Closest to home, Senator Obama supports California’s unique role in setting environmental standards for the nation. He has pledged to reverse the Bush administration’s policy of blocking California’s landmark law to reduce greenhouse gases from vehicles. Additionally, Senator Obama’s comprehensive plan includes important efficiency and conservation measures to reduce national energy intensity 50% by 2030.

“My agenda focuses on working with states and local governments to improve efficiency standards, deploy efficient technologies, and reverse utility incentives so that increased conservation – not increased consumption – is rewarded,” wrote Senator Obama in his answers to CLCV’s recent questionnaire on global warming. President Barack Obama will be the environmental leader we need.
