Careful whom you vote for

Cast your mind back to the presidential elections of 2000. Remember how Governor Bush was for the Kyoto accords and acknowledged the threat from Global Warming. You might also recall how the little attention the media gave to the Global Warming issue at the time (remember the important issues like lockboxes and Ozone Man and who invented the internet).

What you what probably didn’t see much about at the time were the millions of dollars the oil and energy companies poured into Bush’s campaign. Ken Lay of Enron was his biggest single contributor. You may remember Enron–it was the “exemplary” energy company after which Bush going to model the running of his government. Within months of his swearing in, President Bush turned away from his campaign pledge to fight global warming. (In other words, Bush was against Global Warming before he was for it.)

How’d that turn out? Well, Enron went the way of the dodo and Ken Lay was heading for prison before he died. What has the Bush government accomplished? Check out this New York Times report from March 3rd headlined U.S. Predicting Steady Increase for Emissions.

We can’t afford to be fooled again. CLCV is asking members to insure that all the candidates running for President present their views on Global Warming in a detailed way to the voters of America. You can help by visiting the Heat is On site and getting involved. Remember, practice safe voting.
