On Environment, Paramount Shines as Brightly as its Stars

Paramount Pictures is a legendary and thriving movie studio under the leadership of Chairman & CEO Brad Grey. It’s also an impressive model for other businesses dedicated to environmental protection and conservation.

Their extraordinary commitment to being “green” has earned them the CLCV-equivalent of a star on the Hollywood walk of fame: we’ll present Paramount with our Environmental Leadership Award this Thursday at our annual gala event.

Paramount has made protecting the environment a key corporate responsibility initiative. With 100 years of show business under their belts and still going strong, Paramount Pictures is the only major studio that still calls Hollywood home. And as part of its commitment to their beautiful and historic surroundings, they’ve adopted a long-term plan to remain at their 62-acre Hollywood property and prepare for the studio’s future. “The Hollywood Project” merges historic preservation with green design; when it’s completed, the $700 million plan will support over 12,000 new jobs and generate $3.1 billion in annual economic output.

In addition to its work on the Hollywood Project, Paramount demonstrates its commitment to the environment in numerous other ways. The studio recycles more than 75% of its waste. It recently finished work on a facility that provides energy-efficient cooling for sound stages and offices, using 50% less power than traditional air conditioning systems. New construction resulting from Paramount’s 25-year master plan will be LEED-certified.  And last month, Paramount completed installation of new micro-turbines, which will provide 1 megawatt of the studio’s baseline energy needs.

Finally, it’s important to note that Paramount’s commitment to the environment is a family affair. Their employees spent 1000 hours in the past 2 years volunteering on environmental projects, such as planting trees and new gardens at local schools and cleaning up the LA River and our local beaches.

When it comes to protecting the environment for future generations, Paramount shines as brightly as its many stars. CLCV is proud to honor Paramount Pictures with our Environmental Leadership Award in Los Angeles on December 6th.
