Plastic Bag Ban Under Attack!

California’s statewide ban on single-use plastic bags was a first-in-the-nation victory against Big Polluters in the plastics industry – a victory made possible by CLCV supporters like you. But the fight isn’t over.

Just this week, our law was put on hold – stalled by the plastic industry’s multi-million dollar effort to undo the bag ban. Big Plastic’s cynical campaign gathered enough signatures to place the bag ban on the ballot in November 2016.

Don’t let them undo the progress we’ve made against plastic pollution. Start fighting back now by making a monthly contribution to CLCV.

The plastic industry has already spent more than $3.2 million (98 percent of which is from out of state) to buy its way onto the California ballot. It’s safe to assume that’s a drop in the bucket compared to what they’ll spend between now and Election Day 2016.

We can’t match their dollars, but we can more than make up for it with long-term strategy, grassroots organizing, and the proven commitment of CLCV members like you. Start now and your monthly contributions will make a tremendous difference in this long-haul campaign.

Last year, CLCV supporters help make it possible for California to become the first state in the nation to pass a law banning single-use plastic bags. Thousands upon thousands of CLCV members spoke out against plastic pollution, and together we claimed victory when the law passed and Gov. Brown signed it last October.

Time and time again Californians have shown big polluters that citizen voices are more powerful than special interests. With help from CLCV members throughout California, I’m confident we’ll do it again.

Every poll shows that Californians strongly support the law; however, some estimate that the plastics industry will spend between $30 million to $50 million to persuade and mislead voters. Election Day 2016 may seem like it’s a long ways away, but actually we don’t have a moment to lose.

Time and time again Californians have shown big polluters that citizen voices are more powerful than those special interests. With your help, I’m confident we’ll do it again.
