Ballot Measures
| Measure | Position | Website | Results |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prop. 75: Paycheck Deception Act | Vote NO | website | WIN |
CLCV opposes Proposition 75, which would establish unfair hurdles for public employees—including teachers, nurses and firefighters—who wish to contribute to union political activities. Prop 75 benefits polluting corporations who already use their deep pockets to fund anti-environmental candidates. Union workers support environmental leaders because workers are often the first people to have health problems caused by exposure to pollution in the workplace. Prop 75 is unnecessary because public employees are already protected; the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that they cannot be forced to join a union or contribute to union political efforts. Vote NO on Prop 75. |

| Prop. 76: Cut Environmental Funding Act | Vote NO | (none) | WIN |
Proposition 76 is a shameless power grab, endorsed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, which would give the governor an unprecedented and excessive level of authority to cut spending. This draconian measure would let polluters off the hook for paying to clean up their own pollution, shifting cleanup costs to the general public—if cleanup occurs at all. Vote NO on Prop 76. |

| Prop. 77: Reckless Redistricting Plan | Vote NO | website | WIN |
CLCV opposes Proposition 77, which would create a panel of retired judges to draw new political districts in California, which would take effect immediately. Redistricting currently occurs every 10 years, only after new census data are available. Though California's redistricting process needs reform, this initiative is flawed. It would create a panel with little accountability to the public and no requirements for geographic representation or specific qualifications. It would also trigger an immediate mid-decade redistricting, based on obsolete data from the 2000 census, with an unfeasible timeline. Vote NO on Prop 77. |
