Environmental Justice Community Forum

Topic: California Performance Review

Monday, September 20, 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Coalition for Clean Air’s Conference Room
523 W. 6th St., 10th Floor, Los Angeles

The California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) Education Fund, Coalition for Clean Air (CCA), Liberty Hill Foundation (LHF), National Health Law Program (NHeLP), Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) will co-host a community forum to discuss the California Performance Review (CPR) Report.

The California Performance Review Report, touted as Governor Schwarzenegger’s campaign promise to streamline California government and save taxpayers millions of dollars, is a 2500 page report which recommends that many levels of government be eliminated to consolidate their functions under the governor’s office.

This proposal would impact the public’s right to participate and testify before Boards and Commissions, which are the only few vehicles to provide input on important environmental health and justice issues affecting our communities.

Attention: The last hearing will be held on September 27, in UC Davis. September 30, 2004 will be the last day to submit comments to the CPR Commission. After September 30, you may still submit comments on the California Performance Review at: http://cpr.ca.gov/feedback/.

About Environmental Justice Forums

Environmental Justice Forums are part of the California League of Conservation Voters Education Fund's (CLCV Ed Fund) Community Empowerment Program. Our monthly Environmental Justice Forums (a.k.a. EJ Luncheons) series bring powerful speakers to address a diverse group of activists on policy proposals, community issues, and organizing efforts. Twenty to 100 community members and activists representing environmental justice and environmental health community groups, and local, state, and national environmental organizations attend each meeting. Recent guest speakers have included officials from the California Air Resources Board (ARB), the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD), and local environmental and environmental justice activists.

For co-hosting and/or speaking opportunities, or for more information about our upcoming Environmental Justice Forums, contact Luis R. Cabrales, Director of Community Programs, at (310) 441-4162 ext. 306 or .
