Awards Gala: Honorees

Honorees:
Attorney General Kamala Harris: As Attorney General of California, Kamala Harris enforces the landmark environmental laws that make California a national leader in smart environmental policy. As San Francisco District Attorney, Harris created the office’s first Environmental Justice unit which prosecuted environmental crimes. She actively supported the Environmental Circuit Prosecutor Project by the CA District Attorney’s Association that provided environmental education for state and local prosecutors and local governments. A graduate of the University of California Hastings College of the Law, Ms. Harris has worked with environmental leaders and legislators throughout the state to support environmental protection laws.
Mayor Bob Foster, City of Long Beach: Mayor of California's seventh largest city, Bob Foster is being honored for an entire career as an environmental champion. The former President of Southern California Edison, Mayor Foster led the company in implementing the largest renewable energy portfolio in the United States. As Mayor, he spearheaded an aggressive clean-up of the Port of Long Beach, initiated the conservation of the Los Cerritos wetlands by acquiring key portions of one of the last intact wetland ecosystems in Southern California, and led the efforts to decommission the outdated, polluting South Bay Power Plant in San Diego. Mayor Foster worked closely with CLCV to advance the implementation of landmark global warming and land use laws AB 32 and SB 375.
Daphne Zuniga: Actress Daphne Zuniga is a devoted conservationist and a founding board member of Earth Communications Office (ECO), an organization that harnesses the power of the environmental movement and the entertainment community. She joined the Board of the Los Angeles River Revitalization Corporation following her illness from mercury poisoning. She has collaborated with NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) and Robert Kennedy, Jr.'s Waterkeeper Alliance. Recently, Zuniga has focused her efforts on public education campaigns about the hazards of toxic chemical and environmental problems in Hispanic communities, where childhood asthma is an epidemic. Zuniga became familiar to millions of television viewers as Jo Beth Reynolds on the hit series Melrose Place and can currently be seen in the hit series One Tree Hill.
Wendy James, Better World Group: Wendy James, founder and President of The Better World Group, Inc., brings 30 years of exceptional environmental strategy, communications, and policy expertise to the clients and organizations with which she works. She provides trusted advice to policy makers at all levels of government, works with progressive businesses to frame their political strategies, and coordinates environmental organizations in implementing advocacy campaigns. James has worked as the head of the Environmental Media Association, led the Electric Transportation Division of Southern California Edison, and served as a press secretary for a former member of Congress, garnering numerous awards and recognitions. For over a decade, she served on the CLCV Board of Directors; she currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the California State Parks Foundation.
