The Heat is On
Making global warming a presidential priority
Turn up the heat on presidential candidates
See a chart of where the candidates stand on global warming.
The scientific debate on global warming is over — and the mainstream media is increasingly acknowledging the role of human activity in climate change. Cutting the greenhouse gases responsible for global warming, however, remains a huge challenge. The evidence is all around us: extreme weather occurrences such as hurricanes, floods and droughts, devastation of habitat and species, and deadly heat waves. If we continue at our current rate of fossil fuel consumption, the consequences to the future health of our planet will be irreversible.
California is a leader in global warming policy. With the passage of AB 32 last year, California is providing a model for the nation and the world. But AB 32 is not enough. We need nationwide limits on carbon pollution and reduced dependence on fossil fuels.
The largest obstacle to federal action on global warming is presidential leadership. That’s why CLCV is collaborating with the national League of Conservation Voters to make global warming a key issue in the presidential campaign. Our “The Heat is On” campaign is raising the profile of global warming and challenging all the candidates to develop effective strategies to address the problem. To raise the stakes, we’re doing a media blitz, educating and organizing voters, and stepping up communication with the presidential candidates, regardless of their party affiliation. We’re targeting voters and major media around the country.
You can help ensure that the next president has a strong, sound global warming plan by contacting candidates and talking to other voters. And, we have resources to help you get involved. Make your voice heard now and let the candidates and the electorate know global warming is a key issue!
Key state LCVs, including CLCV, and the national LCV have launched the Heat is On campaign to turn up the heat and demand results.
