Vote NO on Propositions 75, 76, and 77 on November 8th
Say NO to the Governor’s reckless agenda
Early in 2005, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger hinted at an unusual approach to governing California. Instead of proposing bills to undergo the traditional, democratic legislative process, he endorsed several carefully chosen ballot measures, placed them under the banner of “reform,” and called for an expensive special election that very few people want.
Ballot measures such as Propositions 75, 76, and 77 (see back for details) are being funded by the same wealthy interests and corporations that spend millions of dollars to defeat environmental leaders. Why? Because those propositions give the governor and polluting interests unprecedented control of the state budget and political process—at the expense of ordinary Californians.
Historically, turnout is abysmally low for California special elections. That is something the proponents of Propositions 75, 76, and 77 are counting on; they want voters who care about protecting our environment and other progressive issues to stay home. Since their base of anti-environmental voters is expected to turn out in greater numbers, despite the unpopularity of some of these measures, we still have a fight on our hands.
Turnout is the key to defeating these anti-democratic, anti-environmental ballot measures. Don’t let polluters push through their agenda when no one is looking. Failure to vote equates to silent approval in this election. Get out and vote on November 8th (or send in your absentee ballot), and encourage your friends, neighbors, and family to vote NO on Props 75, 76, and 77.
