No Way to Balance the Budget!
California's Senate Republican leadership is plowing ahead with proposals that would balance the state's budget on the back of environmental funding — an area of the budget that has been historically UNDERFUNDED! They are holding the entire budget hostage to their proposed cuts in funding for greenhouse gas reduction, state parks, diesel pollution clean-up, and coastal protection.
These cuts are out of step with the vast majority of Californians. According to a Public Policy Institute of California poll, 81% of Californians — including 60% of registered Republicans — believe steps should be taken right away to counter the effects of global warming. Just 9% of Californians think state government is doing "more than enough" to protect the environment — while 85% think it is not doing enough or doing just enough.
These environmental cuts must not stand. Take action now: Call your Assemblymember and your State Senator and tell them to fight against cutting the budget for greenhouse gas reductions, state parks, reductions in diesel pollution, and coastal protection. (Not sure who your Assemblymember and Senator are? Find out on the State Legislature website.)
