Clean Air hearing set for August 31

Take action today: Ask your Senator to oppose Cynthia Tuck as California Air Resources Board chair

As we reported last month, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has nominated Cynthia Tuck, who has spent her career lobbying for polluting industries, as chair of the California Air Resources Board (CARB). CLCV and seven other environmental groups have joined together to oppose this nomination.

Take action today: Please contact your State Senator and ask him or her to oppose this nomination. The Senate Rules Committee will meet August 31st (see meeting details at right), after which Tuck's nomination may go to the full Senate.

Why oppose Tuck?

  • Tuck has spent her career fighting tough California air pollution laws and regulations.
  • Tuck has represented the same industries she would be charged with regulating.
  • The California Air Resources Board's innovative success has often been due to its chair’s independence, leadership, and commitment to protecting public health.
  • California needs a Chair of the Air Resources Board who can make tough decisions, stand up to industry, and push the State toward the Governor’s goal of a 50 percent reduction in air pollution. Ms. Tuck's record indicates that she is not the appropriate person for this position.
