96% of CLCV-endorsed candidates win in historic election

our endorsements and results

Across the country, and in California, we had great victories for the environment on November 4th, and we have a lot to celebrate.

In addition to the historic victory of President-elect Barack Obama, CLCV won in 89 of the 94 California races in which we made endorsements. Read all of our endorsements and results.

We didn't just make the easy endorsements; we also worked hard to flip 4 legislative seats from anti- to pro-environment. We earned clear victories in three, and the fourth (Hannah-Beth Jackson in Senate District 19) is still too close to call (though Jackson currently holds a slim lead). Returning environmental heroes, along with new leaders replacing termed-out legislators, will give the legislature an even stronger environmental majority in 2009.

On statewide ballot measures, California voters made smart choices for the environment. Californians passed Proposition 1A to fund high speed rail, and voters saw through Propositions 7 and 10—measures that sounded green but were opposed across the board by environmental organizations and leaders.

Voters in California—especially CLCV members—paid close attention and supported the environment with their votes.

This has been a great election for the environment. Thank you for all your work with us to make these victories a reality. We have excellent opportunities for environmental progress ahead, but there is still a lot of work to do, and your support for CLCV continues to be vital. Thank you!
