Oakland — With the race for the state’s highest office to be determined in November, the California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) announced their endorsement of State Treasurer Phil Angelides for governor. “I am honored to receive the endorsement of CLCV,” said Angelides. “I will stand up and fight to protect our environment each and every day. I have always put environmental protection at the center of my work and as Governor I will ensure we protect our precious coastline, preserve our forests, and improve the quality of the air we breathe and the water we drink.”
CLCV’s endorsement gives Angelides a clean sweep of the three major environmental endorsements, which include the Sierra Club and Vote the Coast. “Phil Angelides has won the triple crown of environmental endorsements and if elected we expect he will be among the best environmental governors in the history of California,” said Susan Smartt, Executive Director of CLCV.

State Treasurer Angelides created the “Green Wave” investments which have invested $3 billion of California’s dollars in cutting-edge environmental technology, renewable energy resources, and curbing our consumption of oil. Angelides’ environmental platform includes plans to restore funding to the California Coastal Commission and implement a comprehensive smart growth plan to reduce sprawl, clean up the air and relieve traffic congestion.
“Phil’s 25 year track record of environmental leadership sets the bar high. His ‘Clean California Plan’ would reduce the use of gasoline and diesel by 25% in ten years and will make California the world’s leader in cleaning the air, reducing the burning of fossil fuels, and fighting global warming—while creating thousands of new green jobs that will grow California’s economy,” said Smartt.
“California’s history of setting the standard for environmental protection has resulted in cleaner air, more coastal protection and healthier communities across the state,” said Smartt, “but we have to do more. We need a Governor who will act now, and that Governor should be Phil Angelides.”
