CLCV Endorses Treasurer Phil Angelides for California Governor

Oakland – The California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) announced its decision today to endorse State Treasurer Phil Angelides in the Democratic Gubernatorial Primary. “State Treasurer Angelides has a long and distinguished career of being a leader on environmental issues, and is certain to be one of the most effective environmental Governors this state has ever had,” stated Susan Smartt, Executive Director of CLCV. “Phil Angelides has introduced innovative ways to invest billions of dollars to develop renewable energy and cutting edge environmental technologies, reduce our dependence on petroleum, protect our coast, and encourage economic progress in California’s inner cities,” said Smartt.

The endorsement is the culmination of an extensive process that included analysis and research into the candidates’ records, a detailed questionnaire, and participation in the first ever Gubernatorial Debate on the Environment. The debate, held at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, was centered entirely on environmental issues and gave each candidate the opportunity to share their environmental values, accomplishments, and vision.

“Our next Governor is going to have to tackle some of the biggest environmental challenges of our time including energy resources, climate change and some of the worst air pollution in the nation,” remarked Smartt. “We have heard plenty of talk about California’s critical environmental problems; Phil Angelides is the leader who will take action to solve them.”
