The California League of Conservation Voters Endorses State Senator Mark DeSaulnier for Congress

LOS ANGELES & OAKLAND, Calif. (July 1, 2009) – The California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) – the non-partisan political arm of the environmental movement in California – has announced its endorsement of State Senator Mark DeSaulnier for Congress in the 10th Congressional District.

“CLCV is proud to endorse Senator Mark DeSaulnier for Congress in CD 10,” said CLCV Chief Executive Officer Warner Chabot. “Mark will be a champion for the environment when he is in Congress, as he has been in the legislature and at the local level. He will lead in the fight for clean air and water and for energy independence, and he will have the courage to tackle our climate crisis head on.”

“I am honored to receive the sole endorsement from the California League of Conservation Voters,” State Senator Mark DeSaulnier said. “I have fought for strong environmental protection in CD 10 that protects our natural resources and supports healthy communities. When I am in Congress I will continue to champion environmental policy that creates clean energy jobs, reduces global warming, secures energy independence, and aids in the transition to a clean energy economy.”

Senator DeSaulnier scored 100% for his perfect voting record on environmental legislation in 2008, as reported in the most recent edition of CLCV’s annual California Environmental Scorecard. He has addressed local and regional environmental issues on the California Air Resources Board, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, and as a member of the University of California Toxic Substances Research and Teaching Program Advisory Committee.

Former Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher, who until recently represented the 10th Congressional District, resigned after she was confirmed as Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Affairs for the U.S. State Department. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has set November 3, 2009 as the special election date to replace Tauscher. The primary election will be held September 1, 2009.
