California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) Applauds Appointment of Wendy Mitchell to the California Coastal Commission

LOS ANGELES, Calif.  (Jan. 1, 2011) – The California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) – the non-partisan political arm of the environmental movement in California – today applauded Governor Schwarzenegger’s appointment of the Wendy Mitchell to the California Coastal Commission.

“Governor Schwarzenegger made a wise choice in appointing Ms. Wendy Mitchell to the California Coastal Commission,” said Warner Chabot, Chief Executive Officer of CLCV. "Wendy combines a strong record of environmental leadership, public service and deep understanding of public policy issues. The Coastal Commission’s mission of protecting our coastal resources and communities has been challenged by declining budgets and staff size. Our state budget deficit will create further challenges; therefore we’re grateful to have Wendy Mitchell's experience and values added to the Commission,” concluded Mr. Chabot.

In addition to serving on the board of directors of the California League of Conservation Voters, Ms. Mitchell has a wide array of civic and public service experience. This includes serving on the Board of Pacoima Beautiful, as past Chair of the L.A. Mulholland Design Review Board and currently as the Chair of the LA City, South Valley Area Planning Commission.

Mitchell has an impressive 15 year record of senior strategic positions in California state government and the private sector. She has served as a senior consultant to both the State Assembly and Senate on a wide range of budget and policy issues as well as serving as Chief of Staff to State Senator Denise Moreno Ducheny (D- San Diego).

“California’s coastline and environment will greatly benefit from the leadership that Wendy Mitchell will bring to the Commission,” said Tom Adams, President of the Board of the California League of Conservation Voters.
