Steve Westly

Steve Westly is the State Controller of California and serves as the Chief Financial Officer of the 6th largest economy in the world. He is a member of more than 50 boards and commissions including the State Lands Commission (SLC), State Coastal Commission, the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS), and the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Controller Westly has a strong record promoting the environment. As a member of the SLC, Controller Westly voted to restore 584 acres of Bolsa Chica wetlands in Southern California from development and had them restored to their perfect historical condition. He has taken an active role as a member of CalPERS and CalSTRS in pressuring automakers to comply with California’s emissions standards designed to curb global warming. As the state’s CFO, Controller Westly believes being pro-environment is good for California’s economy. He has promoted green technologies and environmental innovation by advocating for the creation of a core investment program at CalPERS and CalSTRS that focuses on clean technologies.
