SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (May 28, 2015) – The California League of Conservation Voters—the nonpartisan political action arm of California’s environmental movement—honored three of California’s leading environmental champions at its annual Environmental Leadership Awards in San Francisco tonight.

“CLCV is proud to honor these women, all extraordinary environmental champions; they inspire us all to fight climate change and protect California’s environment, the health of our families, and the future of our planet,” said CLCV chief executive officer Sarah Rose.

“I am really thankful for this award, and to be receiving it alongside such amazing and inspiring leaders as Annie Notthoff and Lisa Jackson,” said honoree Lisa Hoyos, President and Co-Founder of Climate Parents. “Back in 2008 when my now ten-year-old and seven-year-old were three years old and four months old, I heard this story on NPR about what the world would look like in 2035 if we didn’t do enough to cut carbon pollution. It was mostly about systems collapse. I did the math and realized that in 2035 my boys would only be in their late twenties! It was a lightning bolt moment for me, and I thought if all parents really understood this threat----they’d want to get involved in mobilizing for solutions, because along with loving our kids, it’s our core responsibility to keep them safe.”

“Thank you to CLCV for honoring me; I’ve presented this award a few times so I know what it stands for,” said honoree Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environmental Initiatives and the former Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. “I’m proud that our work at Apple reflects California’s values and our commitment to our environment, our public health and our future. But the truth is that the private sector can only do so much and companies are part of a much larger framework that must include organizations like CLCV. CLCV is at the nexus of political leadership, policy change and public engagement. I applaud your work and encourage you to keep doing what you’re doing.”

“My mother taught me that you can get an awful lot done, if you don’t care about who gets the credit, but it does feel pretty good to be recognized by the people I’ve had the honor of working alongside for so long,” said honoree Annie Notthoff, California Advocacy Director for the Natural Resources Defense Council and a CLCV Board Member for over 20 years. “It’s a treat to work here in California, a place where we are showing how a strong economy and clean environment go hand in hand. We set the pace on so many environmental and public health initiatives – from tackling climate change to protecting our coast and ocean to demanding a safer food supply. We can’t stop climate chaos all by ourselves, but we can design models that work and can be adapted around the world.”

“Thanks to our honorees and our supporters, California leads the nation when it comes to environmental progress and values,” said CLCV Board President and Chair Rick Zbur. “As the father of three amazing children, I’m so proud that we’re collectively passing these values of stewardship, sustainability, and innovation on to the next generation of conservation leaders. Clean air, water, and communities for our families are the direct result of support for CLCV’s work to elect champions to the state legislature and to Congress, and hold all our lawmakers accountable to a bold environmental agenda.”
