Statement from Sarah Rose, CEO of the California League of Conservation Voters, on the signing of landmark climate and clean energy law SB 350:

“Once again, Californians have succeeded in making history by passing a first-in-the-nation law committing our state to clean, renewable energy! This bill was signed by Governor Jerry Brown, authored by Senate President pro Tem Kevin de León, and supported by a diverse, thriving movement of climate change activists throughout the Golden State. Our progress on clean energy and clean air is possible because of the tremendous outpouring of grassroots support from Californians who know our state can and will rise above the challenges of dirty air, communities at risk from wildfires, and threatened drinking water supplies. The bright path forward includes electing environmental champions and passing legislation like SB 350, which will increase California’s use of renewable energy to 50 percent and double energy efficiency in our buildings in the next 15 years. The law will democratize the benefits of clean energy and make sure they are implemented equitably across all communities. With the governor’s signature today, California stays firmly in a place of national and global leadership in our commitment to ending our addiction to dirty fossil fuels while cleaning the air in our most impacted communities and protecting our families from the threat of climate change. It’s a great day to be a Californian.”

We believe that radical change is necessary and only by transforming our political system will we create the opportunity to take bold action on climate change. We elect and cultivate environmental champions, turn election victories into policy wins, hold our lawmakers accountable, and build political power for change. We inspire hope and action and fight for equity and justice for all Californians. We are in the business of changing what’s possible.
