California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) Announces Leadership Transition

Long-time CLCV Education Fund Government Affairs Manager Rebecca Saltzman Will Succeed Sarah Rose as Interim Executive Director

Oakland, CA -- The California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) – the non-partisan political arm of the environmental movement in California – announced today that Rebecca Saltzman will transition from her role as Government Affairs Manager to serve as Interim Chief Executive Officer in February. Current CEO Sarah Rose will step down at the end of January to join Audubon California as Executive Director.

A national search will be launched in the coming weeks by CLCV and CLCV Education Fund’s boards of directors to find a permanent CEO for both organizations.

“On behalf of CLCV’s Board, staff and members, I’m thrilled to announce that Rebecca Saltzman will head up our important mission of electing environmental champions and holding them accountable to the environmental agenda,” said Rick Zbur, Chair of the CLCV Board of Directors. “Rebecca brings not only her expertise in passing crucial environmental protections in Sacramento but also in advancing the mission of the broader environmental community. Rebecca’s deep knowledge of CLCV’s operations and her extraordinary talent for collaborative leadership are the skills necessary to lead CLCV at this critical time.”

“During her successful tenure as CLCV’s Chief Executive Officer, Sarah Rose deepened the collaboration between California’s environmental groups and allies,” continued Zbur. “We at CLCV are grateful to have benefited from Sarah’s leadership and we look forward to working with her in her new role at Audubon California.”

“Having worked at CLCV for the past seven years, I’m excited to take on this challenging and rewarding new leadership role at a time when California’s environmental leadership is so critical,” said Rebecca Saltzman, incoming Interim Executive Director of CLCV. “I join CLCV’s Board and staff in thanking Sarah Rose for her tremendous leadership and in wishing her all the best in her work at Audubon on behalf of California’s environment.”

“I’m proud of the work of CLCV’s staff and Board and proud to have been part of their critical mission for nearly 25 years,” said Sarah Rose, outgoing CEO of CLCV. “In a time of unprecedented attacks on our environmental protections, it is critical California continue to provide the model for the U.S. to follow on so many bold and important environmental initiative. Heading into the most important election year in recent history, I believe the team at CLCV, under Rebecca Saltzman’s leadership, is well prepared to fight to elect a new generation of environmental champions to take our fight against the politics of pollution from Sacramento to Washington DC.”

For the past seven years Rebecca Saltzman has managed CLCV Education Fund’s Green California program, a network of more than one hundred organizations with a common environmental, health, and justice agenda, working collaboratively to speak to the legislature with one voice. Prior to working at CLCV, Rebecca spent years as a public transit and policy advocate, coalition builder, grassroots organizer, and manager with local, state, and national issue-based organizations. Rebecca is an elected member of the BART Board of Directors, representing District 3 in the East Bay, and she serves as vice-chair of the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority.
